There Might be a Problem in the Thread

If you feel like your thread is bunching up or your stitching seems unusual then there are chances of something wrong or too tight. As you all know that a standard sewing machine uses two threads. One thread is used to unwind from a spool on top of the machine which goes through the needle. And the other is the one that comes from a tiny spool underneath. So when the machine is adjusted in the right way, the two threads would wrap around each other in order to create a stitch.

And if for some reason, one of the threads is tighter than the other, your resulting stitch would pull out of whack. And this would roughen the texture of your fabric. Thus you need to check both threads and make sure that they both are either not too lose or too tight to prevent your fabric or cloth getting rough. Check Whether your Needle is Straight

To be able to sew something perfectly, you need to make sure that the needle is not only sharp but straight and installed correctly as well. You should check that it’s not bent and even if it is working smoothly, it is best to replace it with a new one after some time. Similarly, different fabrics require different needles and it is your job to know and make sure that you are using just the right needle. Also the machine needles come in different sizes. Some are quite sharp while others are ball point. The main problem here is that all needles look similar to one another. And to avoid confusion, you should check the package and read the instructions.

Another shorter way to find out the right needle is that, if your machine keeps skipping stitches, then there is a very good chance that you are using the wrong needle.

There Might be an Issue in the Settings

While using a sewing machine, there comes a point where your machine won’t sew at all. If this happens to you, then you might have forgotten to flip a switch somewhere. So first you should check whether it is turned on? The check if the pedal is connected on not. Or is the presser foot down. Similarly, if your machine is humming and whirring but the needle is not moving, then the bobber winder must be turned one. Bobber winder is a feature that lets the machine’s motor wind a bobbin for you.

Another issue that you can face is if the needle is moving but the fabric doesn’t then you need to check the feed dogs. Feed dogs are the spiky bars underneath.

If the needle moves but the fabric doesn’t, check the feed dogs. These are the spiky bars underneath the needle that move to slide the fabric along as you sew it. There’s a switch that turns them off; you may have hit it accidentally, so just turn it back on. You can also check out free online Quilting Classes.

Cleaning the Darn thing will increase the Efficiency of your Machine

Among so many things that we have just mentioned, another thing that you should check is whether your machine is clean or not. If the machine is acting a little weird then it is best to clean it carefully. You can first open up the bobbin case because it is easily accessible and brush it out carefully. Then try to open any other area which you seem is accessible and brush out the lint and apply a few drops of machine oil or as per the instructions given in the manual.
