The Project Management Institute (PMI) has recently revealed that there are going to be changed in the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam. The change will start on 1st July 2020 and before this date, the pattern will be the same. Why is the PMP Exam Changing?

The PMI conducts a thorough research every 3 to 5 years in order to understand the extent to which this profession has revolutionized. The PMI understands this factor very well that if a profession is revolutionizing this quickly, the person should too. They understand that the profession has progressed and the emerging trends are putting great impact on it that has ultimately changed the responsibilities of a project manager.

And that is why every year, they try to bring reforms to the exam. This year, the change will take place effective immediately on July 1. The new PMP Exam Content Outline contains everything that a person needs to know about what changes are made, what will be the pattern of the exam and what other things to expect on the PMP exam after June 30, 2020.

What are the PMP Exam Changes?

They have to work more diligently now and be able to use more diverse approaches so as to deal with this profession as meticulously as they can. People:

To be emphasizing such skills and activities that will put a great impact leading a project team.

Process:

To be reinforcing the technical aspects of managing a project.

Business environment:

To focus more on highlighting the connection between a project and the organization strategy.

Are there any consequences of the PMP Exam changes 2020?

Yes, of course to every change there are consequences to bear and so does this exam has. So let us take a look at the details below.

This new exam will be bigger:

This means that 70% of the exam will focus on Domain II which is the process and the remaining will focus on the other remaining domains (people and business environment).

Agile will be a must:

The new pattern depicts that half of the questions in the exam will be about agile and hybrid approaches. This means that one must focus on these two areas greatly

The new exam will be much harder:

The new exam will be harder because so many new topics and areas will be covered. This means that passing the exam on the new pattern will be much harder as well. So a person must prepare accordingly.

35 contact hours are a minimum requirement:

As PMI requires for a person to verify at least 35 contact hours of specific instructions which address the learning objective in project management. This means that now the exam contains about twice as much content so one should prepare himself that an in-depth exam prep course will take a lot of time and efforts.

 

In order to be the best in this profession, one must make up his mind to adjust according to the changes that the PMI makes every year. Focusing more on domain II and meeting all the standards might take a little more effort and time but in the end, it will be worth the effort.
