How to implement Agile Project Management into your technical team?

Scrum is an agile project management methodology or can be also called a framework. It primarily uses is for software development projects having the goal of delivering new software capability every 2-4 weeks. According to the 12th Annual State of Agile report, it has been found out that 70% of the software teams are using Scrum or a Scrum hybrid in developing projects.

With that, Scrum has also spread to other business functions like IT and marketing where projects have to move forward and complete in time. Thus with Scrum, your life can get easy.

Steps to Implement Agile Project Management into your team:

Consider Agile as a rhythm where you continuously need to make sure that everything is going with the flow. In other words, there are multiple and independent cycles of planning and delivering going on. So you have to make sure that your team is working smoothly and that there are no errors in the work which can cause any delays.

Keeping in view this thought, we are going to mention some steps to implement Agile Project Management into your team.

  • Hold a Strategy Meeting to Share your Vision:

Before any project starts, what you need to do is hold a strategy meeting where you are going to share the vision of your project. In this meeting, stakeholders, managers, directors, and relevant executives must be present so that everyone stays in the loop.

  • Make a roadmap for your product development:

The next step here is to translate that vision of yours into a roadmap. This can also be called as a high-level view of all the requirements for your project. So you need to carefully identify, prioritize, and estimate the effort each piece of the product is going to demand to make it a whole worthy product. This step has to be done by the product owner but other stakeholders can also share their views.

  • Gear yourself up for the Release Plan:

Now that you have the vision and a roadmap, there’s no other requirement left so you need to set some tentative timelines. As a product owner, you have to create a high-level timetable for the release of working software. Along with the product owner, project managers and the whole team has to be there to start this actionable phase.

  • Planning your Sprints is what is next:

The next step is the most exciting one as now is the time to plan sprints which are the short cycles of development. In this step, specific tasks and goals will be carried out. The length of a typical sprint lasts between 1-4 weeks. It must be mentioned here that the length of the sprint must remain the same throughout. It is because this will enable the team to plan their future work more accurately based on the performance of the previous sprint.

  • Stay on track with Daily Standups:

In order for your team to work smoothly and prevent any delays, it is important to keep a regular check on their performance. What each of the team members has done yesterday, what is left, what work is for today, are there any delays, etc. These standups or meetings have to be held on a daily basis so as to avoid any kind of inconvenience.

  • Time for a review of your Initial Plan:

After everything has been achieved as planned, what comes next is to review everything that has been done so far. For this purpose, the best practice here is to review your initial plan to make sure that all the requirements have been met. This practice is very useful as it will help you point out any error that has been made up till now and how to make amends.

  • What to focus on in your Sprint Retrospective?

When everything is going as planned, the next thing you need is to have a clear next step after each step. In other words, after completion of once sprint, it is time to decide what work has to be done next. And this is determined during the sprint retrospective. Thus in the sprint retrospective, you not only need to plan about your next work but also discuss how the previous sprint worked and what steps can be made to improve the next one.

Concluding remarks:

All these steps learn when you become a certified scrum master .You can take CSM practice test as a helping guide to pass CSM exam .Following these steps can also help you to not only lead your team in the best possible manner but also keep the stakeholders, managers, and other relevant people aboard.
